Gail Humphries Mardirosian

Biography
Gail Humphries Mardirosian is the Chair of the Department of Performing Arts at the American University, where she is now in her 19th year as a professor of theatre. Gail's administrative experience includes 16 years at American as Director of the Theatre/Music Theatre program, past Executive Director of a county arts council, theatre manager of a 1,700-seat theatre, and several years as the artistic/managing director of another theatre program. Gail has served the local arts community as a past member of the theatre panels of the D.C. and Alexandria Commission for the Arts, as well as the Maryland State Arts Council, as a past Board member of Imagination Stage and the Potomac Community Theatre, and is a current Board member of the D.C. Arts Collaborative. She is past national president of Theatre as a Liberal Art, the Association for Theatre in Higher Education, for which she continues to serve as the organizational representative for the Arts Education Partnership. While at American, Gail received the Outstanding Teaching Award for the College of Arts and Sciences, was nominated for Outstanding Service to the College of Arts and Sciences, and has served on many different committees including the Faculty Development Committee, the Educational Policy Committee for which she was Parliamentarian for 2 years, the Budget Advisory Committee, and her current involvement with the University Senate as a member of the Instructional Budget Committee.
